BOX STRINGERS
- Top edge and exposed area on inside
of stringer follows grading of specified species.
- Outside and backside of stringer follows
# grading specifications unless exposed stringers" is specified.
OPEN STRINGERS
- Bottom edge of outside of stringers
follows grading specifications of specified species.
- Backside of stringer follows #2 grading
specifications
EXPOSED STRINGER
- Refers to outside of box stringer
- Material follows grading specifications
of specified species.
- Exposed stringers are sanded and may
have pin holes if packaging is required
TREADS
- Face and bullnose of treads follows
grading specifications of specified species.
- Backside of treads follows #2 grading
specifications.
RISERS
- Face of risers follows grading specifications
of specified species
- Backside of risers follows #2 grading
specifications.
STAIR CONSTRUCTIONS SPECIFICATIONS
- Box stringers will be routed ½" deep
to accept the tread and risers.
- Glue wedges will be installed form the
backside to assure a tight stringer/tread/risers joint on
the face side of the stair.
- Wedges will not protrude lower than
the bottom edge of the stringer.
- One 2" staple will be installed through
the outside of each stringer into landing tread.
- Two 2" staples will be installed through
the outside of each stringer into each tread.
- Two 2" staples will be installed through
the outside of each stringer into each riser.
- Six 2" staples will be installed through
the back of each riser into the back edge of each tread.
- Open stringers will be attached to the
risers and treads with pin nail, glue and glue block.
- A ¼" x 13/16" dado will be cut into
the bottom of each tread to accept the riser.
- Joints will be secured with flue and
glue blocks.
- One 14" glue block per tread will be
installed on stairs up to 37" wide
- Fore each additional 6" of width one
additional glue block will be installed
- Glue blocks will be attached with flue
and six 1" staples
- All staples will be flush or counter
sunk
- A #2 yellow pine landing tread will
have one 2" staple through it's face into the top riser.
Flush or counters sunk not puttied and sanded.
- A "D" yellow pine or oak landing tread
will have one 2" staple through it's face into the top riser
counter sunk, puttied and sanded.
STAIR TOLERANCES
- Stringers 1/16" on specified thickness:
¼" on width
- Treads 1/16" on specified thickness:
1/16" on width (depth)
- Risers 1/16" on specified thickness:
1/16" on height
- Stair Width 1/8" on specified on width
